The York Academy Regional Charter School evolved from the efforts of York Counts, a community-wide initiative which began in York County in 1996. David Rusk, a leading urban expert, conducted a study of the community with the particular goal of improving York City, the urban heart of the county.

The Rusk Report ultimately yielded four education and four municipal recommendations. York Academy is a direct outgrowth of one of Rusk’s education recommendations.

Library: The York Academy Library is an extension of Martin Library and the York County Libraries. This partnership provides many advantages for our students, including access to various programs. They can renew books, place holds and have books delivered to school for them. Students also learn how to perform advanced searches in the online catalog and master other valuable skills. These free resources include Hoopla, Book Flix, and POWER Library. The best way to locate these resources is by utilizing the York County Libraries’ website. Music: Music education is part of the six day academic cycle and is integrated into many aspects of the overall curriculum. This program is multi-faceted and explores areas such as music history, composers, folk music, instruments and vocal ensemble.

Academic Standards:The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania has adopted the Common Core Standards for English/Language Arts and Mathematics. The standards were developed in collaboration with teachers, school administrators, and experts, to provide a clear and consistent framework to prepare our children for college and the workforce.
