Chilton Saint James School is a world-class private co-educational Preschool and a girls’ day school from years 1 to 13. The campus is an oasis of mature trees, and a mix of beautifully preserved heritage and modern architecture located in central Lower Hutt- just a quick 15 minutes from the country’s capital City, Wellington. We also operate a Chilton Ballet Academy and Dance School for both males and females.

Established in 1918, Chilton is an independent school, affiliated with the Anglican Church. While we continue to nurture a connection to our traditions and heritage, we also welcome students from all faiths and celebrate one another’s religious traditions.

The CAIE curriculum sets a global standard for education and is recognised by universities and employers worldwide. The curriculum is flexible, challenging, inspiring, culturally sensitive and international in approach. Cambridge students develop an informed curiosity and a lasting passion for learning. Music and Performing Arts: The Performing Arts programme is an integral part of the Chilton experience with students encouraged to attend speech, drama and musical instrument classes, join auditioned and all-comer choirs, try out for the Orchestra, get to their feet with Chilton dance groups, and express their musicianship with ensembles including rock bands and drum corps.

Our Primary, Middle and Secondary Schools offer music, drama and dance in all their forms. Collectively, our students love our annual House Music competitions and productions. An extensive network of itinerant tutors offer students a range of arts and music activities catering to a wide spectrum of interests.

Facilities: Our Lower Hutt campus is on Waterloo Road surrounded by beautiful trees and gardens that provide a backdrop for the 103 year old main building that our founder Geraldine FitzGerald provided. Our girls study in light airy classrooms, with spaces that lend themselves to creative thought and motivated learning.
