At James Island Charter High School, our strong tradition of academic excellence prepares students for college and beyond. For more than 20 years, we have been proud to offer the International Baccalaureate curriculum in pursuit of this commitment to our students, families and community.

As the only high school in Charleston County authorized to offer the Diploma Programme, we offer a rigorous and supportive learning environment that honors the IB mission of encouraging students “to become active, compassionate and lifelong learners who understand that other people, with their differences, can also be right.”

School Culture:
Our vision is to promote achievement for all students, minimizing historical disparities among student groups through relevant curricula, the establishment of meaningful community partnerships as well as an extensive array of extracurricular sport and club opportunities.

We serve approximately 1600 students from across Charleston County and view the diversity of our student body as among our greatest assets. We actively promote the success of all students through a culture of collaboration amongst educators, families and community stakeholders.

Professional Development:
The administrative team is assigned the responsibility to oversee the school’s professional development (PD) in collaboration with faculty and Leadership Team members. The key components of the school’s PD plan include but are not limited to teacher input, student achievement data, and state and district initiatives. The school utilizes available resources to assist teachers in their professional growth and to help students accomplish the school’s mission, vision and goals.
